Many people look at organising as tedious and boring work, even though there are some people who are “neat freaks” and enjoy organisation. No matter what kind of people you are, organising your life is important for your efficiency in your work, but also to have a clearer mindset when you are working on something. If you are someone who takes pleasure in making things as organised as possible, good for you. If you aren’t, then here are some points that you could take down so that you start living an organised life for good.
1. Write down deadlines.
We all think we have a super brain that can memorise everything people tell us, but most of the time, in the end, we either forget about it or work on it at the very last minute. Happens too often, doesn’t it? A way to stop this bad habit is to write them down, nonetheless in your planner, on your phone, even on a post-it notes, and make sure that you will take notice of it. That way you will take notice of it, and you will be able to arrange a time for the task to be done.
2. Set monthly budgets.
Having a monthly budget means we will be writing down how much we will spend in the month, our meals, bills, necessities, etc. It might be a tedious job, but it just makes life easier when we had planned out how much to spend on a certain thing. Aside from keeping organised, having a monthly budget can also limit the amount of money you spend in a month, helping you save some money along the way.
3. Declutter your room.
A messy sight will lead to a messy mind. You obviously do not want your mind to be clutter up especially when you are working. Just take one day in a week to clear up your room and your house, just to keep things more organised. You don’t even need to do this that often, just once a month or longer would work as well. As long as you make sure you take the time out to clear our unnecessary things that are taking up space in your room.
4. Set reminders.
Oftentimes we forget about many things and ended up doing them at the very last minute, and this would most mess up your schedule because you might have something else to work on at that time. So to prevent this from happening, simply set reminders on your phone, as you will be bringing it everywhere you go.
5. Be consistent.
If you want to start being organised, then stay that way. Don’t just think it short term. Don’t think of organisation as a burden, instead think of it as a healthy habit, one that would have positive effects in your life in the long run. Do it long enough that it becomes a habit, something you do without consciousness. Adopting a new lifestyle takes time, and most importantly don’t give up.
6. Don’t use overly complicated organisation method.
One mistake some people do when starting to be organised is to come up with all these different organisation methods for everything, such as one for work or school, one for exercise, one for outfits, and another one for their personal life, and then get demotivated after some time because things get too messy. In actual a simple one would work much better, as the saying less is more.
7. Go digital.
If you do not like writing things physically, then using your laptop or phones would be a good alternative. They will appear tidier, and you don’t need to bring an extra book or planner around wherever you go. Just writing things down on your easily accessible device and you’re ready to go!. On the other hand, you get to save money on those planners that you might need that usually cost a lot.
8. Get rid of distractions.
Though there are people who are not easily affected by distractions, there are still a lot of people out there who are easily affected by it. For example, a person could read a book whilst being in a noisy room, but another person in the same situation might not be able to focus at all. The same goes for being organised. You need to get rid of anything that might be in the way of your way to being more organised, or else it would be a tough journey.
9. Be tidy but don’t be a perfectionist.
Yes, it is important to be tidy and keep your surrounding as neat as possible, but when you wish for perfection all the time, then you are doing it wrong. You should keep your table tidy and free of rubbish, but don’t try to make it look like it belongs in a magazine. Perfectionism might seem attractive, but it would only drag and waste your time.
10. Simplify your life.
Just as mentioned above, less is more. The simpler your life is, the more organised you will be, as there will be lesser things to maintain, and the job will be made easier. You can take a few days to start decluttering your room, keep what you need, and leave what you don’t.
After reading these ten points, now you are ready to start off a more organised life and improve your productivity and efficiency. Throw away the old, messy you, and start adopting healthy habits that will largely benefit your life from now to the future. You might even start to enjoy the work of organising and wonder why didn’t you start doing this earlier in your life.
