How To Dress Like A Real Lady
As you grow older, you might want to tone down your style a little, put away those short crop tops and jean shorts. Sure, this is not to say that wearing crop tops and jean shorts are not “ladylike” but there are always unspoken “outfit rules” that you should know of, especially with the increase in age and maturity. You can still wear crop tops and jean shorts, and still look like a lady, and here are some tips on trying to dress more like a real lady.
1. Don’t show too much skin.
It is not wrong to wear something that shows the lower half of your upper body. If that is your style, you can go with it. However, if you are trying to look more ladylike, whether for your work or school, it is best to keep your abdominal area covered. You still can wear crop tops, but make sure they show a decent amount of skin, but not too much. The same goes for your bottoms. Don’t wear something so short that your butt is hanging out.
2. Wear clean clothes.
No one likes to be around someone whose clothing smells or has a stain. If you want to look more ladylike, make sure you change out your clothes, wear new and fresh smelling clothes every day. You don’t necessarily have to wear formal-looking clothing, the most important thing is to make sure your clothes are not worn 3 days in a row without washing.
3. Keep to simple colors.
If you are someone who loves hot pink or neon yellow clothing, perhaps it is time to swap them out for less vibrant colored clothing, if you want to look more like a real lady. Sure, bright-colored clothing can look fun, but as you grow older you’ll realize keeping things simple would definitely bring the lady out of you. Try to keep staple colors in your wardrobe, such as black, white, grey, nudes, and colors that are versatile enough to be paired with anything.
4. Don’t accessorize too much.
When it comes to accessories, less is more. Many people have the tendency of overdoing the accessories, putting on huge statement necklaces, or wearing bright earrings, or piling on rings. However, a “real lady” look is more of simplicity. Just put on a simple watch and a simple necklace would be just right. If you feel like there are too few accessories, just put on one or two rings that do not stand out too much. And also, make sure your accessories stick to simple colors, such as silver, gold, rose gold, or simple colors.
5. Don’t cake on too much makeup.
Just like accessories, makeup also follows a “less is more” approach. Unless you are going to a party or going out with your friends or a date, there is absolutely no need to put on heavy makeup. Keeping things simple and using neutral colors is perfect enough to look ladylike. If you do want to look slightly more dramatic, remember to stick with just the neutral colors, because those colors look to create on anyone for any occasion. Try to throw out any pink or yellow or colors that tend to stand out too much.
6. Wear heels to enhance your postures.
It is not a must to put on heels if you want to dress like a lady, but having worn heels would definitely help to focus more on your posture, as you do need balance when you are wearing them. Of course, you don’t necessarily need to wear stilettos that are more difficult to walk around with as compared to other heels. A good pair of pumps or some chunky heels would elongate your leg and elevate your height, making you look taller, and thus it will help create that tall and straight look.
7. Keep your hair tidy.
Not everyone is blessed to be born with beautiful hair. In fact, hair is one of the biggest issues girls have when it comes to finding their favorite style. If you are lucky enough to have straight sleek hair, then you are good to go for a ladylike look. If your hair is more on the frizzy or curly side, you could simply tie them up, or you can also just soften the curls with a straightener to make them appear tidier.
8. Feel confident in what you wear.
Don’t settle according to what other people are wearing. Embrace your inner style, the one you are always afraid to show, and wear them out as you like. People are going to talk about you whether you dress like others or yourself, so might as well just learn to block out comments from others and go out there, wearing whatever makes you happy. As long as you are confident and comfortable in what you’re wearing, it’s all that matters.
Dressing like a real lady might not be everyone’s style, but you should sometimes try to incorporate these tips into your style, especially for occasions where you need to look slightly dressed up or formal. Try to find inspiration wherever you can, it can be from your friends, a stranger, from the internet, anyone with a style that makes you feel like it connects to you, and try to stay authentic with them.
“It’s all about confidence… And you’re not always going to feel confident, but all that matters is when you step in that cage when you touch those gloves, that you’re confident. And I think that all literally comes from hard work. If you’re not working hard every day, you’re not going to feel like you really belong there and deserve to win.” – Chris Weidman.
