Being organised seems to be overrated, as a lot of articles will say things like “messy people are more intelligent” or “people who have a scattered workspace are more likely to be successful.” Although those could be true, that doesn’t mean being organised will make you less intelligent or unsuccessful. In fact, one of the key factors to achieve success is to be more organised with your life. Your room could be in a huge mess physically, but at least keep your life organised, mentally, these include your deadlines, your tasks, and such. You do not need to change your life immediately, but you could slowly implement these things into your life so that you can change your life for good.
1. Use a planner.
For someone who does not have a planner, it might seem like a tedious task to keep one and it might even be demotivating to do an extra step in your work, school, or life. If you hate needing to write everything down, you can try using the calendar on your phone as your planner. That way you’ll always have your schedule written down in the palm of your hands.
2. Write things down.
If you have a list of tasks you need to do, especially when the deadline is near, writing it down physically would be helpful. This is because when we write things down physically, our brain tends to remember it better. Of course, it is best to keep the note at places where you will take notice of, say on the door of your fridge or in your car.
3. Clean your workspace.
Not everyone agrees with this, but this is actually very helpful. There is a saying “out of sight, out of mind” without a mess within your vision, your head will be free of junk as well. Just take 5 to 10 minutes every day to put things away, prepare a clear space for your work. It’s honestly not that difficult.
4. Clean out your closet.
Having an enormous amount of clothes in the closet is what many of us regret. You might think they look good in the fitting room when you were trying it on, and after buying it you realise it’s not even that nice! Well, if you have too many pieces in your closet, maybe it’s time to clear them out. With lesser clothes in your closet, your life will feel lighter too.
5. Clear your emails.
Checking your email every morning is a nightmare because more often than not, your email is always cluttered with unread mails that you wouldn’t even read. If you have time, try to delete the useless emails and unsubscribe to websites you don’t even look at anymore.
6. Create to-do lists.
Having to-do lists might sound tedious, but if you don’t try, you’ll never know if it works for you. If planners do not work for you, then a to-do list is your second choice to get your tasks completed within the time period. You don’t have to write down the list physically, you can simply use the notes on your phone for it.
7. Follow along with basic routines.
Morning routine, night routine, skincare routine, these are the things that we do every day, and that means they do not need to be too complicated or take up too much of your time in a day. Recreate your routine so that they are easy to manage and wouldn’t take up too much time and would make your life less complicated.
8. Put things back to their original places.
How often do we find ourselves finding things that we misplaced the last time we used them? And how much time did we waste thinking where we last place it? Well, if we always use put things back to where they belong, that could help save lots of our time, and at the same time make our lives more organised.
9. Avoid procrastination.
Procrastination is your worst enemy. You could be very motivated to work on something, but the moment procrastination enters your mind, your whole task would be ruined. If you are easily distracted by your phone, the TV, whatever it is, then move them away or stay away from them.
10. Don’t multitask.
Sometimes we think multitasking will get our jobs done in a shorter amount of time, but this is a huge mistake. In fact, you will waste even more time because you can’t focus on each task, and that would result in more mistakes. So to keep your mind focus, just work on a task at a time.
These are 10 ways you could organise your life. It is not too late in the year to change your life and improve on yourself.
