11 Things Only Introverts Enjoy
There is always a misconception that introverts are weird, private, quiet, shy, overly-sensitive, or whatever traits they were usually labeled. The thing is, they are just different, not weird. Like extroverts have things they enjoy doing, such as going out with their friends, joining activities and knowing new people, or going out to parties, introverts have things that they love as well. It is crucial to understand how different people should be more aware of what others like and stop judging others.
1. Being alone.
When introverts retreat from the outside world, that is not because they don’t like people or anything, they simply just need time to be by themselves so they can “recharge” for the energy they used while being outside. Extroverts are known to “recharge” by being around others, for introverts it is the complete opposite. Aside from needing to “recharge their energy”, many things introverts enjoy doing are solo activities as well, such as reading, writing, even playing video games. As needing time to be alone is a huge thing for introverts, it is important that extroverts give them the time they need instead of judging them by that.
2. Individual projects.
Nothing scares an introvert more than a group project in school. They get exhausted from all the discussion, as they couldn’t think quietly in their heads, and not to mention needing to be around people? These are like torture to them. On the other hand, individual projects are like heaven to them. Aside from being able to spend time alone and not needing to speak that much, they also get to show their full potential in the project as they do not need others’ agreement on their ideas.
3. Quiet places.
Introverts despise noisy places. They get stressed out and grumpy when they are at places that are too loud. They are always nice people until if you bring them to a noisy place, say a party, they would just go crazy angry. They do not understand why extroverts love noisy places. Extroverts get hyper while being in a loud place, where introverts do when they are in silence. The reason they love it is that they can do things they love without getting distracted, and also they get to explore the limitless thoughts going on in their heads.
4. Cancelled plans.
Introverts do enjoy hanging out with their friends, but they make sure they are well prepared physically and mentally before they leave their comfort zone, aka their house. However, when plans to go out with their friends are canceled, best yet right before the date, it is like hitting a jackpot. This is so they can change back into their pajamas and enjoy their time alone at home with themselves. And it is not a joke to say that introverts can have the best time when they are by themselves.
5. Doing things on their own.
As mentioned in the point above, introverts love doing things alone, in fact, they usually have the best time by their own. They are their own best company. If society is less judgemental on people doing things on their own, you’d probably see many people eating alone, shopping alone, working out alone, and so many things. But due to the pressure society put on people that being alone is “lonely and pathetic”, introverts can only stay home and do things on their own so that they cannot be seen being alone and so people wouldn’t talk about them.
6. Immersing in their own thoughts.
Extroverts are great at speaking whatever is in their mind, on the other hand, introverts do all those in their heads. They have a vivid and rich inner world in their head that is their temporary escape from reality. Due to their tendency of getting carried away by their thoughts and fantasy, they often seem to be daydreaming mindlessly, which in actual they are just getting caught up by their conversations in their head that is much more interesting than the actual world. Of course, there are also a lot of introverts that speaks from their mind really well too, but most of the time they prefer doing the thinking in their head than out loud.
7. Non-crowded places.
Not only are introverts triggered by noisy places, but they also get stressed out when being surrounded by many people. Some introverts were even reported to have medical issues when it comes to being in a crowd, such as having difficulty in breathing, shaking hands, and so on. This is because introverts are pictured to have a “bubble” around them that keeps them safe and warm. However, if too many people are squeezing towards them and bursting their “bubble”, this would be detrimental to their emotional health, mostly. This is also another reason why they’d rather just stay home and be by themselves.
8. Driving solo.
Sure, once in a while introverts do enjoy a ride with their friends, to catch up on their lives and stuff, but on most days, introverts rather be in the car on their own. Not only can they listen to their own music and not what others want to listen to, they can also make use of the time to go through their thinking and enjoy the fantasy they have in their head. Aside from that they also get to avoid any conversations while driving, which would be stressful for them to try to keep up the conversation while driving.
9. Deep talks.
Introverts do love talking, but they despise small talks, gossips or things that are not meaningful. They crave for things that matter to them, whether that is beneficial for them, something that interests them, or regarding people they love and care about. This is why introverts normally have a small circle of friends who they can talk to about meaningful things, instead of a bunch of people who only talk about gossips or meaningless conversations that they wouldn’t even bother caring.
10. Writing instead of speaking.
Don’t misunderstand this. Introverts can be great speakers as well, in fact, many famous people and public figures are introverts. But, if they were to choose between speaking and writing, they would pick the latter. As introverts generate most of their ideas in their head instead of through their mouth, they need time to organise their ideas before delivering them. If introverts are forced to give an impromptu speech where they have to think and speak at the same time, it would wear them out. However, if they are given time to plan their ideas before giving a speech, they are able to come up with a great one. This also explains why there are so many famous writers who are introverts.
11. The end of an event.
Introverts will not turn down an invitation to an event, but of course, it has to be an event that is meaningful and that matters to them. But the part they enjoy the most of that particular event would most likely be the end of it, where everyone is dismissed and is allowed to return. By then introverts can finally remove the “socialise mask” off them and enjoy their sweet time on their own when they get home and do the things they love doing or going through the thoughts in their head.
(Extra) 12. Free weekend.
Introverts are usually great planners as they love organising things before doing them. However, the only exception is during the weekends. This is because they get to explore the time with no limit to figure out what they want to do that particular day. After 5 days of working or studying, they are finally able to take days off and just do whatever their heart desires instead of doing chores that are planned. The best weekend for introverts is when they can do the things they are feeling that day, and usually all by themselves. This is often a way for them to figure out and understand more about themselves.
So these are some of the things introverts enjoy doing that extroverts might never understand. Of course, this is not putting anyone to blame, as different kinds of people have different interests, and neither one of them is wrong. The most important part is for different types of people to understand each other, and giving them support along the way, building each other’s’ way up, instead of beating each other up with judgments and criticism.
