When it comes to weight loss, most people would think that doing any kind of exercise can speed up the process, but you might want to rethink the workouts you are doing. Some exercises are very effective in helping burn fat and lose weight, while some don’t, although they do have their own benefits. Of course, your diet still plays a bigger role in determining your weight, but if you want to see results quicker whilst building a stronger body, improving your sleep and mood, and boosting your brain health, exercise can definitely come in handy.

You should know that not all types of exercises can help burn fat. Sure, moving your body daily is better than slouching on the couch watching TV shows, but if your main aim is to lose weight, then you should focus on exercises that can aid your body in burning fat.

Worst Exercises For Weight Loss

Yoga: Many people think that yoga can help burn tons of fat because most yogis have a slim figure. But compared to other workouts, yoga is considered lower in impact and doesn’t burn as much fats. Studies have shown that yoga can only burn 150 calories in an hour. With that being said, yoga is definitely a great tool to build strength and improve your balance and flexibility. But if you are focusing on fat loss, then you should also include other workouts that are more effective for fat burning.

Pilates: Pilates are often said to be similar to yoga, which includes moves that help strengthen your body and improve your flexibility, they are not the most effective in burning fat. It helps you build and strengthen your muscles, which can prevent injuries from working out in the future. However, if you want to boost the fat-burning properties of Pilates workouts, you need to also include some sort of cardio exercises in your routine.

Steady-State Cardio: Steady-state cardio, especially in longer sessions, are great for burning calories, but they also burn your muscles, which decreases your metabolism. The lesser muscle strength you have, your body will burn fewer calories throughout the day. Plus, longer sessions of steady-state cardio are also known to spike up your hunger, making you eat more later. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do them at all, but make sure you pair them with some type of strength training.

Spot-Reduction Exercises: Many people only want to reduce fat from a certain part of their body, like their belly fat or thigh fat, and they think working out on that area can help to burn fat. Unfortunately, this is not how our bodies work. We cannot choose where we want to burn fat and focus on the area. Spot-reduction exercises are great at building and strengthening your muscles, but if there is fat covering the muscles, they will still not show.

Best Exercises For Weight Loss

Tabata-Style Workout: Tabata workout is basically a type of circuit workout. They are usually shorter in sessions, which is great for people who don’t have much time to work out in a day. It consists of 20 seconds of high-intensity workout, followed by a 10 seconds rest, and this sequence would be repeated 8 times. Tabata workouts are very flexible as you can do any type of exercise that you prefer, as long as they are high impact. Basically, you have to choose 4 exercises that are high impact, and add them to the formula. Not only do they increase your heart rate and help burn fat, they also help build up your strength.

HIIT Training: HIIT stands for “High-Intensity Interval Training”, and like Tabata-Style workout, they are also circuit type workouts with bursts of high-intensity work followed by a low-intensity rest. You can do HIIT workouts anywhere, even at home. The reason why they are so effective is because they help your body burn fat even after you are done with it because your heart rate is still elevated. Since they are high-intensity workout, it is important to take rests in-between days of doing it.

Strength Training: Strength training can bring lots of benefits to our body. Not only does it help build our strength and muscles, but they can also burn fat, and this is because the more muscles you have, the more fat your burn while your body is at rest. You can choose to do strength training with weights or simply with your body weight. Of course, strength training on their own might not increase your heart rate a lot, but by complementing cardio to them, it can definitely boost your body’s fat-burning properties.

Circuit Training: Any type of circuit training, let it be HIIT workout or Tabata-Style workouts, are all very effective in burning fat. This is because circuit training usually incorporates movements that burn fat and build strength simultaneously. You can also include weights in your circuit training to increase the strength of your muscles, which helps burn more fat.

Of course, working out alone will not bring you the ideal body you desire. If you want to get results quicker and that can last, then you have to make sure you are having a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and to watch your stress levels.
